My drawings usually have three factors; the materials, a seed of interest from observation and then my physical input. They are large scale images that start with a seed of something that develops and grows from the conversation with the materials. The materials open up opportunities as well as set boundaries. I love the give and take. I respond to textures, patterns and dramatic light. I primarily use charcoal, ink and collage. The charcoal as a material lends itself to diverse mark making as well as change within a drawing. A mark can be drawn and then just as easily brushed away. This ‘temporary’ nature of drawing is a driving factor in my work.
